Emerald Downs’s Longacres Mile. Come to Emerald Downs for its famous Longacres Mile, now commonly known as “The Mile,” and watch first-class, race horses run the richest stakes race west of Chicago to North of the San Francisco Bay Area. This annual event was first established in 1935 by Joe Gottstein with the race’s prize money being $10,000. Over the years, the prize money has increased to $250,000.
